Information Technology Specialist (INFOSEC)

This position is located in the Laboratories and Scientific Services Directorate (LSSD) within the Operations Support Office (OS), United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The incumbent of this position will serve as a crime scene expert in digital forensics in a field laboratory, using various software and hardware solutions to conduct advanced laboratory analysis on digital evidence, including portable and electronic media devices. This position starts at a salary of $102,663.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $133,465.00 (GS-13, Step 10) with promotion potential to $133,465.00 (GS-13 Step 10). Serves as a subject matter expert in conducting digital forensic analysis for the Interdiction Technology Branch located within the Laboratories and Scientific Services Directorate (LSSD). Serves as a forensic expert in various areas to include, but not limited to; operating systems and software applications. Independently plans, prepares and conducts forensic examinations on digital evidence. Provides on-site training on digital media exploitation to CBP personnel at various CBP locations, which may require air transportation to remote locations. Experience:
You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Assisting with researching and evaluating digital forensic techniques, hardware and software for use in operations; Providing guidance and training on digital evidence handling and storage techniques and IT forensic software tools and methods; Developing mobile test plans for mobile forensic tool validation and verification; and Preparing and conducting forensic examinations on digital evidence and on portable and electronic media devices such as mobile phones, tablets and vehicle systems. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process by 11/06/2020. There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
